Indian Boarding Schools – Native American Cherokee Carlisle
“Our Spirits Don’t speak English: Indian Boarding School” is a Native American perspective on Indian Boarding Schools. This DVD produced by richheape.com uncovers the dark history of U.S. Government policy which took Indian children from thier homes, forced them into boarding schools and enacted a policy of educating them in the ways of Western Society. This DVD gives a voice to the countless Indian children forced through a system designed to strip them of their Native American culture, heritage and traditions.

Osiyo!! This is …
Osiyo!! This is just one instance of what has happened to us, the Native Americans of this country. I am white, too. The white in me is so ashamed of this. The idea that this is the “superior” way to live and “help” others is absurd!! The Native in me is very angry and hurt. There is nothing more gentle and beautiful than Natives and our beliefs and ways. The whites don’t understand, therefore think that what they do understand is superior. Maybe it is, for them. Confusion builds silence!!

Wish I could …
Wish I could sympathize but cannot due to the ICWA took my children from me because I filed for divorce from their alcoholic father whichj is prevalant on most reservations,I was loyal to the tribe and supoorted even the AIM but after the tribal counsel took glee in telling I had lost my kids I turned my back on the native people, today my children want nothing to do with me thanks to their fathers lies.
Sorry,tis how I feel!

This is my brother, …
This is my brother, as are all of my creator’s children. I understand all he says! I will call him Tobananika (voice of the morning, for the those that dont speak my language) because he speaks to shed the light on the predjudice and opression put on the indigenous of this sacred land. And I will not learn Spanish just to order a hamburger!

Not only are we …
Not only are we listening but the spirits are listening. My heart goes out to those that have suffered and continue to suffer from the injustices. As long as we continue to hold our beliefs and to pull together, we will never be “wiped out”.

He made me cry! I …
He made me cry! I also hear sad stories of what had happened to my husband in the boarding school. I never had this happen to me but I did see the white people degrade my dad in front of me because they didn’t know he was my dad, you see my mom is white. He tells the stories as though they were yesterday, of how his hands were smacked by a ruler until they bled. And United States says they are a fair and understanding and wants what is right. To bad they forget what happen years ago

They’re always …
They’re always killing and killing and killing. It’s very important to eat right, exercise, get enough rest, because people who are unhealthy will be in danger of getting terrible sicknesses. The white ruling elites want to reduce population of the world by 80%.

This is some …
This is some up shit. Isn’t it funny that every other race that white people encountered, they ALWAYS made them into inferior beings. Either slavery or mass killings, it doesn’t matter. Not that I’m grouping caucasians together, but they still seem to have this attitude, like their better than you or something. I sometimes wonder if it’s not genetic =/

Eevery time I see a …
Eevery time I see a movie on Native Americans it makes me sad and angry how these so called ‘civilised’ whites acted towards the ‘heathen savages’.
Yes, white people have been beasts towards the Natives of Turtle Island and the black people. I think to acknowledge, this, like Australia’s yearly ’sorry-day’, is the first part to make some things right instead of getting defensive what usually happens when atrocities are discussed.

My aunt was sent to a catholic indian boarding school, she said the nuns would beat you everytime she spoke Mohawk, she was about 8 yrs old, she didnt remenber to speak her language until she was in her 40’s. A friend of our family who is Paiute was made to bite on a piece of bicycle innertube and the teacher would pull back on it and snap him in the mouth when he spoke Paiute. This is defintely not what Jesus would do.

No one has a right …
No one has a right to deny a person their natural tongue, no one has the right to insult or abuse another human being for his or her way of culture, no one has a right to bully and intimidate or hit another human being for who they are.
Im in the UK, my daughter has an essay asking whether she thinks the American Indians were savages or not! let them wait for my response.Grr
A wonderful friend sharonhitch66 guided me here and Lane will also vouch for me, this is videogoing into that school.
