OSBS {Ocean Side Boarding School};; Episode 1. [Selena's Fifteen]

{Selena’s POV}
Demi and I linked arms as we walking inside the huge boarding school. We knew each other all of our lives. We were the group at our middle school. Well not really. No one really liked us. Thats probably because we aren’t that flaunt money, though we are anything but broke.

“Nick’s coming, right?” Demi asked, cautiously. They were best friends, though Demi obviously wanted it to be something more. Tons of guys asked her out last year, but she turned everyone down. Nick couldnt figure out why.

“Of course he is,” I replied with a smile, “Nick always keeps his promises.”

“Ha, sure,” Demi paused, “Let’s pray we get to be roommates!”

I nodded, as we walked up to the lobby. Tons of people were in line, hoping their roommates weren’t terrorizing.

Though I loved Demi [A/N: Not like in love with just like sister love], I secretly didnt want to be in the same dorm with her. I needed to branch out for a while. Plus, I want more friends. I never had any friend except for Demi and Nick. They’re pretty awesome, but I always wanted to be one of those girls who wore Hollister with red bows in her hair and had a new guy each week.

Demi and I stood next to each other in line, until we reached the table. There was an elderly woman there. “What’s your name?”

Selena Gomez, I said first. I had butterflies in my stomach. What if I got a total jerk?

Go to room 1123, She said with a slight monotone, What about you?

Demi shook, Demitria Lovato,

1134, The old lady paused, Next! She yelled, as I led Demi out of the way.

Aw, Demi sighed, Theres always next year.

I chuckled, Yeah. I saw the expression on her face. She looked as if she was going to cry, right then and there. Well be under the same roof. Its not like we still cant be friends.

She smiled, “Yeah. It cant be that bad.”

“I better go meet my roommate.” I waved, “I’ll see you later.”

I took the elevator up to the eleventh floor. It felt like a hotel, not a boarding school. I scrolled the area to find 1123. “There it is,” I mumbled aloud. I opened the door. There was a blond girl sitting there already.

“You must be Selena,” The curly blond haired girl smiled, “I’m Taylor.” She shook my hand.

“Hi,” I smiled, “I’m Selena, obviously are you a senior?”

Taylor shook her head, “Nah, I’m a junior. I’m just tall.”

Her phone vibrated. “Sorry,” She continued, “Joe’s been texting me tons of times lately.”

“Is he your boyfriend?”

Taylor took a while to respond, but eventually nodded.

“I know a Joe. He was my friends brother.”

“His name’s Joe Jonas. He’s worried about his little brother, Nick Jonas.”

“That’s the one.” Joe was always a kind person. He would make us laugh but he didn’t offend us.

She nodded, as if she didnt care. I couldn’t understand if I liked her or not. She had the style of the person I would laugh at. She wore a pink Hollister shirt, with a little eagle over the r. She wore stone washed skinny jeans. She texted a lot, obviously

She was one of those girls.

“I’m sorry about that,” She said with a smirk.

“It’s ok,”

“So, are you busy today?”

“I’m straight.”

She scoffed, “So am I. I meant do you want to go to a party?”

“Oh,” I hesitated, “Isn’t it a school night?”

“Is that a problem?”

Was she manipulating me? I wasn’t going to fail any of my classes because of a party. Yet it is the first day. Yes. No. Yes. No. “No, not at all,” I cant believe that I just said that, “I’ll be there.”

That day was the first and last day of sanity.

Yeah, this one sucked. xD But the next one is actually going to be pretty interesting, in a way. x] Oh, and this one’s going to have pretty direct drama [like IN YOUR FACE] sort of things.

Has anyone had a bad exeperience with boarding school?

If you had a bad experience with boarding school, do you think you (have or would have) enjoyed a regular school better? Have you met anyone with a bad boarding school experience?

I didn’t attend a boarding school, but know many people who have. Reasons that people have a negative experience are:
1. Being really different from people at that school (ie. financial differences, being very shy, etc.) This doesn’t mean you can’t fit in, but it can make things harder.
2. Going at an untraditional time (ie. starting junior or senior year.) Some schools allow this and it can be a challenging transition because people have already established friendships.
3. Not having a strong support network at home. It can be quite challenging to be away from home. If you don’t feel like there are people back home who will support your choice to be away from home while also being there for you when you return, then it can be extra hard to be away.
4. Lack of independence. To succeed in boarding school, you need to be able to advocate for yourself, talk to advisors, ask for help, etc. If you’re used to having your parents do everything for you, then it’ll be hard to make the transition. Some kids struggle because they just can’t do a lot of things for themselves.
5. Poor academic/study skills – Some kids get into boarding schools on stellar test scores, but don’t know how to study. Traditional schools are easy for many really bright kids, but boarding school will be more challenging so you need to know how to keep up. Likewise, kids with weak academics who get in because they had good grades from a less then excellent school might struggle with the rigor even if they work really hard.

Boarding schools are a great option to receive an excellent education, develop a lot of social skills and independence, and be really involved in your school’s athletics and clubs since you’ll be living there!

However, if you are lacking in confidence, independence, or the ability to adjust easily to new circumstances, then it will be a difficult transition and might not be worth it for you.
