I want to start tutoring elementary school kids, but I’m not sure how to get my name out to people. Any ideas? Also, how much should I charge?

(1) If your area has any program set up for community volunteers to tutor elementary school kids for free, sign up and do that. Why? That will give you credibility. They will probably run a background check on you. They might also provide some brief training in how to tutor the elementary kids. So you can advertise that you are ALREADY a tutor in such and such Elementary School.

(2) Put up flyers in coffee shops. Lots of moms go to coffee shops in the mornings and afternoon.

(3) On your flyers, state your credentials and what you charge. State things such as: if an honor student; your GPA if it is high; subject you have all A’s in; any Advanced Placement classes you’ve taken; any academic awards won. Put nice photo of yourself on the flyer.

(4) Put ads on Craigslist, if there is one for your city or town.

(5) To decide on a price, do searches on Google and see what others are charging in your state or city or town.

(6) To be a tutor is an important position of trust. Peoples’ future are at stake. Make sure you do a good job!

Right now my major is computer science. I may switch to IT, but I’m not sure yet. My parents want me to major in this, so how can I wind up teaching in elementary school with this degree? Is there any way?

Besides having specialized training in computer technology, you must have an education degree so that you have teaching certification. This means that you have to student teach.

In my district, we have a computer facilitator (teacher) in each of our nine buildinga who are in charge of the computer labs in their buildings. The ones in elementary, teach each class that come sto the lab at their assigned time. They teach computer skills, manage the labs, and handle building level computer problems. I think that the secondary ones are more of a resource. We also have a head IT who works at Central Office, but I have never seen him. I think he only hangs out in the main computer area. He and his three assistants are in charge of all district technology and are the only ones who can enter district level data in the system, and can remotely open any district computer harddrive in the district, including the superintendents. However, none of them have teaching degrees and none can teach students.

So I want to become an elementary school teacher in Ontario. I want to know how much the elementary school teachers in Ontario earn per year. I might also look into becoming a French teacher. So if anyone knows the average annual salary for these positions it would be very helpful. Also if anyone could tell me if the pay rate is increasing or decreasing.

The first website below is general for being or becoming a teacher in Ontario. The second website is a graph of salary. According to the graph, any K-12 teacher in Ontario makes average C$48,692. Remember, that is average. Beginning teachers usually make less, while veteran teachers can make more than that. Good luck!

Then it went from that to elementary, middle, high. Now it’s elementary, intermediate, middle, high. Just didn’t know if they thought it would better the children’s education in some way?

I imagine so it keeps a better environment for the kids. You develop better socially when you’re consistently interacting with kids close to your own age, and if you’re walking around in a school as a 4th grader when you’re simultaneously tripping over kindergartners and walking between the legs of the 8th graders, you don’t feel quite as motivated socially.

Just wondering if it is a local thing or if that’s how it is across the board. What is the availability of jobs in an elementary school?

Thanks!

There are A LOT of job cuts for teachers all across the US. I definitely know there are teachers losing their jobs in Indiana because of budget reductions. If you really want to teach, try getting a minor in college as well just to be safe and have a backup. There are jobs similar to elementary teachers that let you work with children.

My friend who wants to be a fashion designer is taking sewing classes, internships etc. Another friends who wishes to become a scientist of some sort is taking all of these science classes and also special programs and things. I want to become an elementary school teacher and I want to know what types of things I can do to prepare for it, and possibly put on my college applications? Thanks.

Wonderful ! I love to read something from a young person who is thinking

about their future ! You will be a wonderful elementary teacher:

Here is why: because you must like children.

because you must be dedicated on your studies.

Now : As an Elementary Teacher student, in college you will take:

Math ( 4 years of Math) Algebra, English, Science, Social Science

Earth Science ( all kind of Science classes ) Geometry,

Geography, History, Calligraphy, Music, Speech, Drama

Art , Theater, ( elementary teachers are required to work with Art so
the little children enjoy learning about Art)

Therefore: if you want to start preparing yourself for it, just pay attention

to all the classes I mentioned, and it will be easier when you get to college.

Good Luck ! I have the feeling that you will make it !

I ask this question because I really want to be a 5th grade teacher. Or at least an elementary school teacher because I love school and I love kids. Then maybe after a few years move up to middle school, then high. Is it worth being a teacher? What are some of the challenges you face being a teacher? Any imput from any elementary school or any teachers would be great!! I meet with the college tomorrow!

I’m not a teacher, but I’d worked as a teacher assistant, and I would think that the most challenging aspect of teaching would be dealing with students who have challenging behavior in addition to perhaps trying to handle difficult parents who don’t want to realize that there is a problem.

Before you choose an "education" major, please get a part-time job working as a teacher assistant to try to find out if you feel at ease in that type of environment.

Also, what are some other good side jobs for elementary school teachers?

It would be extremely difficult, even if you only did "regular" modeling. Teaching takes an incredible amount of work outside of school hours. You should volunteer in a classroom and take note of the workload. Imagine leaving that job and going to a modeling shoot, then coming home and doing lesson plans, checking papers, etc. I think you may need to research each job thoroughly and make a choice. Maybe it would be easier to do some modeling before getting a teaching degree. You won’t waste time and tuition if you decide modeling is for you. A good side job for a teacher is private tutoring.
