The Elementary schools I went to, always had mostly nice students, teachers, and staff there, But in middle school, all that went down hill. There were some nice students and mean students, and some of the teachers weren’t nice either. In 6th & 8th grade it was mainly the students. What have you experienced in the past at school? It can happen in high school and in the real world also. Is high school more gossipy?

In middle school adolescent hormones and behavior greatly affect the milieu of the school. High school tends to be much nicer than middle school.

middle school gives you more responsibilities as to elementary not so much. you start to learn more about yourself in middle school with new friends and with 6 classes you have now then to the one class in elementary. you learn basically the same things just the next step of advancement its still a normal school just like high school with strict rules you have to follow the school basically guides you to maturity

Teachers and students,

I’m planning to become a middle or high school teacher, and I would like some advice. In your opinion, what makes an outstanding middle school teacher or high school teacher, and what advice could you provide to a new teacher to help him or her reach that goal? Please go into as much detail as possible. Comments from students would be helpful, too.

More info;

Do effective classroom rules make an outstanding teacher?
Do engaging lessons make an outstanding teacher?
Does personality make a great teacher (how on earth can I learn this?)
Does extensive knowledge of the subject make a great teacher?

Students often like teacher that Truly want their students to do well, and make them work hard to achieve their goals, not just a teacher that doesn’t care and just sees it as a way to earn money and isnt enthusiastic at all.
Also a good teacher should be firm but fair, but that doesn’t mean being strict and have the kids work in absolute silence, my favorite teacher tells us about her personnel life and she likes to have a laugh with us she often uses anecdotes to make us understand the work better. A good teacher should also be good at the subject they are teaching and be very passionate about it
Oh and students like teachers that treat them like adults and refer to us as "guys" and stuff

neither.

You simply need a credential. apply to your schools graduate department of ed – (or any schools) a few prerequisite tests and you can begin your credentialing work this quarter. Its 1-1.5 years in a program that supplies your methods and curriculum courses as well as student teaching.

Here is irvines: you simply need the *Single Subject Teacher Credential (Grades 7-12)*

http://www.gse.uci.edu/academic_programs/index.php

here is cal states – a more affordable option:

http://ed.fullerton.edu/SecEd/CredentialProg/Index.htm

good luck!

Does any one have any suggestions about songs or even games I can play with the kids? Preferably music/rhythm related games. And middle school advanced music. Not high school level yet. Maybe some Disney stuff or something they’d be interested in and have fun playing. Thank you so much!!!

I’d ask the kids to bring in instrumental stuff that they like. It would teach them the concept. If there are no words it can’t really be offensive and you could learn a lot about their taste.

A couple weeks ago or so, there was this one girl who got a detention for something she did. She was crying in the room & the teacher didn’t really do much. All she did was have her sign the slip & pat her back a little bit. What do middle school teachers usually do when middle school kids get upset? Why didn’t she do much when she was upset?

Sounds like the teacher did a proper thing, which is to give the student a little space to be upset and deal with what ever has upset them. But, don’t disrupt the learning process for the others in the class.

Kids need to learn that the teacher cares but that the world does not stop just because they are upset about something.

I have an 11 year old daughter attending middle school (in my city they put 5th grade in the middle school.). On occasions, I take her to school and see how the other girls her age or girls in her school dress. Do parents of kids at this age think that it’s appropriate for girls to be wearing clothes that bring on negative attention from boys? Maybe I’m forgetting how girls dressed when I was in middle school but being a parent of a daughter has me a bit more concerned for good reason.

Their clothes should fit and cover well, should be age appropriate, and should not have any offensive sayings/words on them.
