They’d accept all the “smart” kids and kids without learning disabilities or emotional disturbances, etc.

And they’d expect government handouts if we wanted them to teach ALL the kids.

I’ve worked in both public and private schools. Private was a cush job and they’re generally not equipped to provide for kids with special needs. This is why some kids on the private school vouchers end up going back to their public school.

There’s a reason we have the Dept. of Ed. All children need a shot, and the private sector isn’t much interested in serving ALL kids.

I’m planning on majoring in Theatre (or acting, whatever the school lists it as) and either minoring or majoring with Psychology. Are there any schools you know of in Tennessee that you would recommend?
1. Psychology majors can lead to a lot of careers
2. Theatre is my interest, I shall pursue it
3. I live in Tennessee, which is why I’m asking specifically Tennessee right now, more scholarship opportunities and such.

A couple of suggestions, one public, one private:

Belmont University in Nashville — www.belmont.edu
UT Knoxville — www.utk.edu

Best of luck with your plans. If you have not done so, start participating in community theater. It gives you a good background in theater.

I have been trying to find Masters programs at a good school for the field of psychology, and it would make it all the better if it had something like forensic psychology. So far the only school I’ve found with an interesting program is University of Denver. If you have any school suggestions that would be great.

The states I would rather it not be in are Michigan, New York and California.

Marymount University (Arlington, Virginia), Adler School of Professional Psychology (Chicago), California Baptist University (Riverside), Roger Williams University (Bristol, R.I.), Fairleigh Dickinson University (Teaneck, NJ), American International College (Springfield, MA), University of Houston-Victoria.

Better education than a state school,
birth control (this could be a pro or a con depending on who you are)
RE may be more focused on Christianity

teach about contraception (again, could be good or bad)
Teach tolerism of all religions (most) all religious backrounds allowed

I am applying for computer science graduate school. How many schools should I apply to?
I am confused. High application fees discourage me but I don’t want to miss a chance.
How many schools do people generally apply to?

Apply to at least five. It doesn’t matter if the high fees discourage you, trust me. Why? Because the fees won’t bother you once your rejected to the only two graduate schools you thought of applying.

My main point? It’s always better to be safer than sorry. To answer your questions, usually students apply to 3-6 graduate schools for their Master’s/pHD program. If your speaking of professional schools such as medical, dental, law, business, many students normally apply to 6. With the competition in the United States involving international, foreign exchange, and students who are extremely motivated, you definitely do not want to take that walking chance of only applying to such a few institutions. My safest bet is to apply to 3 schools you for sure know are most likely to get into and two dream schools. So since your a computer science major, let me provide suggestions…

Dream Schools: UC Berkeley, M.I.T.
Comfortable Schools: UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Connecticut

OR

Dream Schools: Cal Tech, Carnegie Mellon
Comfortable Schools: University of Texas, University of Washington, University of Florida

I know some fellow students who have applied to 15 different graduate schools. It sucks being rejected to schools, but its always best when you have alternative back-up plans in hand. Good luck and I wish you well.
