What issues present a real problem to elementary school children?
We all have problems-kids, teenagers, and adults. What types of issues (social and not) do elementary school aged kids have to face?
Bullying and changing. I remember when I was in elementry school (I had just moved to a new school/house, and my parents were getting a divorce) the girls used to tease me because I was fat. Thats when I developed my first eating disorder. People thought I was weird. Changes for puberty start to happen close to 4-5th grade, which can be akward and confusing. For the younger kids, its mainly bullying and finding friends.
1) Pace of social development not matching others
2) Home issues affecting desire to learn/do the school work
3) Emotional issues (sadness, etc., which they may not admit to)
4) Learning problems (dyslexia, etc.)

They have the keeping up with the group and learning about cliques just as teenagers do it’s just not quite as brutal. My 5yr old is already a social thing that worries about what her hair and clothes look like because the other kids will laugh at her, it’s all the same in life just on different scales, (little kid’s forget the next day, teens and adults do not) and of course they have the homework and school work and chores to deal with just as the teens do (usually just less griping about it)

I live in a small town and have an 8 year old little boy. I think the problems he faces at school are a little different than maybe a child who lives in a huge city with lots of kids.
But, one thing they all have in common is peer pressure! They all feel the need to have and do what the kid down the street is able to do.
Confidence plays right in to that as well….even though they face a lot of pressures at school it is still a great age to be. I enjoy him being this age.
