I am trying to decide if I should get a GED or a High School diploma. I am 19 and I would like to start applying to colleges. WIll having a GED effect how colleges will look at my application? If I do get a high school diploma it will be through a program online. One of the schools I am going to apply to is University of Houston.
So.. GED or High School Diploma?
Most community colleges offer GED testing. You just sign up and take the test at one of their testing centers. If you don’t pass the GED exam, they also offer GED prep courses.
For the Houston CC, call 713.718.6011
As for whether it is better than a HS diploma – I got a GED and then went to college and law school so it didn’t hold me back. Your call.
As for the online HS – do even 10% of the students ever complete one of those courses?

In high school what are the grades I would have had to have? And how many years in post-secondary school would be ahead of me? I want to study english to teach in high school.
You have to get a degree and then go to teachers college.4 years for the degree and I think teachers college is a year.

I’m planning on majoring in Theatre (or acting, whatever the school lists it as) and either minoring or majoring with Psychology. Are there any schools you know of in Tennessee that you would recommend?
1. Psychology majors can lead to a lot of careers
2. Theatre is my interest, I shall pursue it
3. I live in Tennessee, which is why I’m asking specifically Tennessee right now, more scholarship opportunities and such.
A couple of suggestions, one public, one private:
Belmont University in Nashville — www.belmont.edu
UT Knoxville — www.utk.edu
Best of luck with your plans. If you have not done so, start participating in community theater. It gives you a good background in theater.

Im in year 10, and im going to be starting my work experience next week. i am going back to my old primary school and im not sure what i can wear, the letter from the school says, smart/casual wear and no denium. i was thinking of wearing a black high waisted skirt, with a nice smart top and black pumps. however after thinking if im with little kids i dont want my skirt to be too short. do you think it will be okayy to wear it? Thanks.:)
i think you should wear flats and not pumps
you’ll probably be on your feet a lot and with kids you don’t know what you’ll be doing
as long as your skirt isn’t too short and your blouse isn’t too low, it should be fine

I already have 11 A* to C grades at GCSE, and I’m really worried because I think I will only get BBC/BCC at A level- I’m doing Psychology, English and Law. Would it be hard to get a job as a qualified teacher after doing the PGCE with those A level grades? Primary school teachers can you tell me what grades you got?
Hi there,
It sounds like you are really interested in pursuing primary teaching as your career. The A level grades you mentioned above are good grades. As to getting into primary school teaching, it all depends on what route you want to take. As far as I am aware, there are 2 main routes into this (although there may be others).
(1) Do an undergraduate degree in any subject (although might be better to do it in core subjects eg. maths, english or science) and then apply to do the 1 year PGCE training.
(2) Do a 3-4 year undergraduate degree in primary school teaching.
If you take route 1, then the A-Level grades you get all depends on the requirements of the university to do that course and each university differs. Whats more important when applying to do the PGCE is your degree classification and you would need to aim for a 2.1 ideally although I understand that some uni’s will accept 2.2 graduates.
If you take route 2 then again, the A-Level grades you need to get, all depend on the university’s requirements to undertake the undergraduate teaching degree. When applying to universities, it might be best to pick courses whereby you feel that the A-Level requirements are within your reach.
If you want to discuss these options further then it might also be a good idea for you to make an appointment with a careers advisor either in your school/college or a local careers advisor.
If you are from wales then you can contact the Meic Helpline (24 hour helpline for young people) on; 08088023456, text 84001 or IM/email; www.meiccymru.org
best of luck with this

So I want to become an elementary school teacher in Ontario. I want to know how much the elementary school teachers in Ontario earn per year. I might also look into becoming a French teacher. So if anyone knows the average annual salary for these positions it would be very helpful. Also if anyone could tell me if the pay rate is increasing or decreasing.
The first website below is general for being or becoming a teacher in Ontario. The second website is a graph of salary. According to the graph, any K-12 teacher in Ontario makes average C$48,692. Remember, that is average. Beginning teachers usually make less, while veteran teachers can make more than that. Good luck!

I’m looking for a fiction book about an all girls’ boarding school. I’m hoping the main character would have been in with a bad crowd, or something like that, to be the cause of being sent to boarding school. Something that’s maybe a horror or a thriller, or very dark, that has a lot of emotional points in the story. Like jealousy, friendships being broken, maybe death, etc. That’s just an example of the type of thing I’m searching for. Doesn’t nessacarily have to be narrowed down to this. Thanks.
A Royal Match. Very good book! Its not necessarily a thriller, horror, or dark book but it is about a good girl from L.A. who goes to boarding school in England with all of these bad girls…they sneak vodka into school in little shampoo bottles, sneak out late, hook up with guys all of the time etc…reminds me alot of Kate Middleton for some reason! I guess because the main girl falls in love with the heir to the British throne!

Here’s basically what you need:
A clean record (no arrests and no convictions)
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education (K-3)
State certification (pass the tests)

I live in London. I am about to move Brighton or Hove at the end of this month. I am going to start university (postgraduate). I have a kid who is going to start primary school. I am a single mother. Therefore, I am looking safe place with good schools to move with my kid. I am driving so doesn’t matter how far my place will be from university. The priority is safeness and good school for my kid.
Thanks a lot!
Hove is probably the most suitable place and there are a few good schools there in the area, however both Brighton and Hove have their sort of downmarket, ‘council’ places that should probably be avoided and in your case places like Whitehawk. Kemp Town, in Brighton is quite upmarket and a good place however I think it’s more for single people (not saying that there aren’t any families). Have a look at the Ofsted reports on the Brighton council website and this will help you choose which school is goood however if you have not applied to any schools and your child is starting this September, the likelihood of you getting a good school is not very good.

If you’re in a boarding school and you’re really sick to the point you have to go to the hospital, how does that work? Do they make personal trips? If so, who takes them? Just doing my research on the life of a boarding school student.
There’s an onsite nurse/infirmary. If you’re sick or injured enough to require hospitalization the school arranges transport or an ambulance. One of the onsite teachers may take you or my school had an arrangement with a local taxi/driver service.
