To become a teacher, you need a Undergraduate Degree in a academic subject (History, English etc – although for Primary teaching they tend to be more lenient with what degree they accept. Any degree you have HAS to be of at least a 2:2 level.
Then you need a PGCE in either Primary Education or in an subject for secondary (and you need to hold a degree in the subject you want to teach – aka Maths if you want to be a Maths teacher)
You will need specific A-Levels to get onto a Degree course (Maths A-Level or a Maths Undergrad, English for English etc) And you also need at least a C grade at GCSE in English or English Literature, Maths, and a Science.
A Levels themeselves never come into the mix – only as being something you need to get on a degree course. They’re more interested in you having the three Cs at GCSE level – and at what degree it has, and whether it is relevant to teaching.
After that – its a good application form, good reference, at least two weeks of teaching experince (the more you have, the better your chances). A presentation, a maths and writing test and then a clear Criminal Record and a acceptable back ground health check. References : Have applied for a PGCE next academic year.
