What’s the difference between classroom and teaching assistants at primary school level?

I’m thinking about helping out in my child’s future primary school, but I am not confident in my ability to ‘manage’ groups of children, having never done this before.

As a teaching assistant i started out as a parent helping out with my kids class i then took courses to develop my skills and the more time you spend with the children the more confident you get and you learn to manage groups,it is one of the most rewarding jobs that i have ever had

A classroom assistant can be anyone like a parent, close family friend, highschool student, etc. Teacher assistant is someone who is on their way to becoming a teacher, in school and putting in the necessary requirements to become a teacher.

    Hi,

I’m not 100% sure, but a classroom assistant may be someone employed to work solely with a student/students or may be a volunteer who does the same. Whereas, as teaching assistant is employed to assist the teacher and may be required to do jobs for the teacher (photocopy, etc) as well as assist with students.

As for your fears about managing groups of students, the teacher should help you (as you are there aiding them) so that shouldnt be a concern.
