What are the differences between a private and a public school?

Does a child learn more things in a private school than they would at a public school?

well i know private schools teach at a faster pace. for example a 6th grader at a private school will be a bit more ahead of the 6th grader in public school.

my daughter is in kindergarten in public school and she is learning to write in print..
my friends son is kindergarten in private school and learning to write in script.

  1. Expensive, but there are just about the same in learning things. Different with university – I guess private university have much more better professors than a public university.

  4. private school is funded by private invester

public school is funded by government

since govt funded schools do not put enough responsibility on teachers they turn to take their job for granted

public school teachers on other hand have to work hard because they can loose thier job if they dont perform

  5. a private school-depending on what kind ,can teach religion. Usually has a dress code. Usually has a ridiculous tuition fee. Usually has underqualified teachers that are being payed less then public school teachers. Usually have a secured, sheltered envirionment.

public school-better teachers, more people, not taught religious views, also, kids aren’t as sheltered and have more of a freedom at most public schools..

i think its pretty much the same learning, maybe a bit more advanced depending on how prestigious the school is

except private schools cost a lot more and you have to wear a uniform.

  7. The real difference between private and public schools is that public schools can’t discriminate. This has nothing to do with social or ethnicity status. It has to do with test scores and grades. Most private schools require that their students meet a certain mark or risk being expelled. Public schools on the other hand do not have that option to expel failing students. These schools must take all students regardless of their educational status. More often than not, the public schools would take in the lower economical students whose parents cannot afford private school. These include English as a second language, special education, and those with learning disorders.

You can’t compare the two schools based on student performance because private schools would take the cream of the crop, while public schools are required to enroll all students.

Some private schools do not require that all their teachers have teaching credentials, so long as they know their subject. On the other hand, public schools require that all teachers be certified and licensed to teach. The government regulates the public schools whereas private schools are self-regulated.

In regards to what a student learns in either school, that all depends on the student and parent. A student can be just as successful in a public school as in a private school.
