Is learning a foriegn language mandatory in public schools?

Im writing a persuasive essay for school about (being against) learning a foreign language. Im not sure if it is mandatory for learning a foreign language in public schools though. If anyone could help me out with this?
In my schools, you are required to have at least 2(?) years of a foreign language, wasn’t sure if it is like that in other states.

Thank you.
Tim G – I agree, some people have no interest in learning another language and they don’t help the teacher by not wanting to learn anything.

It isnt mandatory, however it is recomended. Colleges are getting more picky about foriegn languages. In Montana, at least, 2 years of a foriegn language is required to even qualify for acceptance into the university.

  3. i think it is and seems somewhat pointless to me. you’re lucky if you use 3% of what you’re forced to learn, it stresses you out, takes away from other studies, what you do use is available in a small translator book and does not help you make money. making money is the basic goal of education.
after you have money you can study what you wish.
