Group opposes TPS levy

A group of Toledoans calling themselves Toledoans for Public Trust launched a campaign Monday against the Toledo Public Schools’ income tax levy saying it’s the wrong tax at the wrong time.

The levy on the May 4 primary ballot asks for voters to approve a three-quarter-percent income tax to help with a $30 million deficit the district is facing for the 2010-11 school year.

Toledoans for Public Trust said since city council recently increased the monthly trash fee and lowered the tax credit for residents who work outside the Glass City, the levy would be too much of a burden on families.
